St.Stephen’s Church of Ooty dating back to\nthe nineteenth century. It is one of the churches developed under British Raj.\nThe whole church was constructed using excellent wood. The timber used in\nthe church was taken from Tipu Sultan’s royal residence on the island of\nSrirangapatna, after the destruction of Tipu Sultan in the hands of Britishers.\nSome of the attractions of this church are exquisite wooden design, the work of\nart of Last Supper, stained glass windows with various scenes like the\ntorturous killing of Christ and Mother Mary holding child Jesus in her arms.\nThis church has an unusual characteristic of four hammers like structures, tied\non transformed V shaped wooden planks using wires. When these wires are pulled,\na musical sound is produced. A visit to this superb house of worship is an\nextraordinary encounter. Christmas day is a special day of euphoria and noble\ncause.
